Damaststeel:

The technique of forging Damaststeel is known for more than
2500 years. This procedure was a technique to create with the
ancient and medieval forge buoyant blades with long lasting
sharpness. Many traditional heroes songs and myths of
different cultures praise Damascene arms and award them
even with magical attributes. Its name comes from the Syrian
city Damascus , a major transshipment point in the trade of
weapons and other items from Damaststeel.

For the assembly of the knife, different types of steel in several
layers are forged together. The very high proportion of carbon
creates a steel blade of improved durability and strength. By
polishing and etching with acid the blades receive their
sinuous characteristic pattern. The terminology from the
Middle Ages describes this as a decorative pattern and
magic, such as the "Devil's Eye" and the "Mohammed Ladder".
Outstanding precision cut and fracture resistance in harmony
with high artistic value and craft tradition are indicative for knife
blades from damaststeel, the blades of the old masters.
